On Wednesday 9th January, Nintendo officially announced that Yoshi’s Crafted World will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch on the 29th March 2019. The game was originally shown off at E3 2017 and at first was supposed to be scheduled for release last year. However during the September 2018 edition of Nintendo Direct, it was confirmed that alongside the official title reveal that the game would miss its original launch window and be pushed back into Spring 2019. The tweet from Nintendo also shows off a little story trailer.
The game is being developed by the company Good-Feel who created the previous title in the Yoshi franchise, ‘Yoshi’s Woolly World’. The new game looks to draw a lot of inspiration from its predecessor with its art style of using materials but using a cardboard cut-out theme instead. It will also include a new gameplay mechanic to the series with the ability to view the game from two different viewpoints, whenever Yoshi stomps the ground. This will allow the player to see behind objects that they wouldn’t have seen before. Apart from this, it looks like it will play like a traditional Yoshi game. This is by no means a bad thing, as long as the game will give the player a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
Yoshi’s Crafted World releasing in March will bolster Nintendo’s growing 2019 release schedule with confirmed titles such as Luigi’s Mansion 3, Animal Crossing and Daemon X Machina still to come, along with other titles to be formally announced at a later date.
