Yakuza Live-Action Movie in the Works

SEGA and RGG Studio’s Yakuza series will soon be getting the Hollywood treatment. With Erik Barmack, Joshua Long, and Roberto Grande on-board for production, let’s see where this one goes.

As reported by Variety, a live-action movie based on the Yakuza series is currently in the works.

SEGA will be at the helm, with 1212 Entertainment [Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark] and Wild Sheep Content helping out.

Yakuza series writer, Toshihiro Nagoshi, is listed in the writing credits. Erik Barmack [known for Dark, 3%, and Sacred], Roberto Grande [76 Days], and Joshua Lang [1983] are all tapped to produce, whilst 1212 and Wild Sheep are currently searching for script-writers for the movie. Currently, we don’t have much else to go on beyond this.

A spokesperson for 1212 said;

Yakuza offers us a new playground in which to set compelling stories with complex characters in a unique environment that audiences have rarely seen before. The saga of Kazuma Kiryu [Yakuza‘s lead protagonist] has a built-in cinematic appeal – a mix of kinetic action with bursts of comedy, multiple converging storylines, and a gripping journey towards redemption”.

Barmack added;

“With our background in telling global stories, we are excited to bring this huge project to global platforms”.

We’ll have more news on this story when it becomes available.
