With the launch of the Xbox Series X and S consoles, power was Xbox’s biggest gambit.
Boasting several Teraflops of GPU [12 on Series X and four for the Series S], the capabilities were unfathomable. Added to that, both machines had respectable CPUs as well.
Many had hoped that the results would be more wide-spread than they currently are. However, one advantage to these seismic improvements has been unveiled
Adding an article on Xbox Wire, Xbox has announced that several backwards-compatible games will see an increase in their FPS. And it’s all thanks to something Xbox is calling “FPS Boost”. As the Xbox team notes, FPS Boost;
“…employs a variety of new methods for nearly doubling (and in a few instances, quadrupling) the original framerate on select titles”.
Currently, only a small handful of games have FPS Boost capabilities [Far Cry 4, New Super Lucky’s Tale, Sniper Elite 4, UFC 4, and Watch Dogs 2]. However, Xbox promises to add more titles as time goes by.
The FPS Boost will see UFC 4 perform at 60FPS on the Series S, whilst New Super Lucky’s Tale will now reach 120FPS! Some really impressive figures, though it remains to be seen what other games will see an impact.
