Xbox partners with Special Olympics USA for Forza Motorsport 7 Tournament

Special Olympics USA Games recently announced their partnership with Microsoft’s Xbox gaming division to host the first-ever video gaming tournament at the USA Games in Seattle on July 2, 2018.

Since 2014 Microsoft has been a partner of Special Olympics, however this will be the first joint video game tournament at the Special Olympics USA Games and Microsoft is the Premier Partner of the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games.

Of the partnership and the benefits of gaming for their athletes, Beth Knox, President and CEO of the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games had this to say: “Many of our athletes are avid gamers and research indicates playing video games can potentially boost cognitive and motor skills of people with intellectual disabilities…. We are thrilled to partner with Xbox to bring the first-ever video gaming tournament to the USA Games.”

The teams were previously chosen during qualifier events across the country and eight unified teams will be competing in Forza Motorsport 7.  Each team consists of an athlete with an intellectual disability and an athlete without.

Microsoft will also be having gaming stations at the event for fans to play games such as “Forza Motorsport 7”, “Minecraft”, and “Super Lucky’s Tale”.
