Xbox Cyberpunk Players Get Free Augmentation to Series X Version

Cyberpunk 2077 promo still

Xbox’s “Smart Delivery” feature guarantees a free Xbox Series X version of Cyberpunk 2077 when you buy the new console. Provided you bought it on Xbox One, the upgrade to Series X will be a free upgrade.

New Features Galore

In a series of tweets earlier today Microsoft announced a bunch of new details on the Xbox Series X. Principle among them being the rather enticing, aforementioned “Smart Delivery” feature. Said feature will give players both the current-gen and next-gen versions of cross-generation games, for the price of one.

Microsoft confirmed that this feature will be available as standard on all Xbox Game Studios games. They went on to add that any third-party developer could opt in if they wished to. Just over an hour later Cyberpunk‘s twitter took them up on the offer:

When Should You Grab Your Copy?

Cyberpunk 2077 will release on 17th September for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. However we still don’t know when next-gen versions of the game will come out. Current reports suggest Cyberpunk will release on next-gen, but probably not at launch. All this means you might have had to wait quite a long time if you planned to play the next-gen version – until Microsoft’s “Smart Delivery” announcement.

To put it in perspective, this decision from CD Projekt Red is like if Rockstar had promised the Xbox One version of GTA V to all owners of the Xbox 360 version, free of charge.

We currently don’t know whether Sony plans to announce a similar feature – or whether they already have one ready to go. If Sony doesn’t reveal such a feature, it would be an enormous win for Microsoft. If you own an Xbox One and plan to upgrade to the Series X, it might be a good idea to get yourself a copy for the sweet, free Xbox Series X version of Cyberpunk further down the line.
