The Worms are making their triumphant return to gaming.
The new game, Worms Rumble, will allow 32 players in a match and consist of real-time combat.
The good news for die-hard Worms fans is that the classic gameplay elements are still intact. Side-on perspectives, Holy Hand-Grenades, and destructible environments are all included.
However, the pacing will be new to any returning players. As you can see in the announcement trailer, the Worms can now do a multitude of acrobatic feats. These include wall-jumping, rolling, and even dodging.
Added to these changes, Team 17 has also said to expect “seasonal events, daily challenges, and community collaborations”. It all sounds a bit Fortnite-y, but, if any IP lends itself to the Battle Royale genre, surely Worms would be it.
Expect to see classic Deathmatches as well as the aforementioned battle royale modes; Last Worm Standing and Last Team Standing.
Worms Rumble will land on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC later this year. Team 17 has stated they are working on those platforms exclusively first. Worms Rumble will also support cross-play.
