World of Warcraft’s Next Expansion Delayed

Blizzard is the next to delay a product on account of the global pandemic. Developer still aims at a 2020 release for the expansion

Blizzard is the next to delay a release date thanks to Covid-19. Last week, Larian Studios announced that Baldur’s Gate 3’s Early access will not release on it’s initial release date. Now, Blizzard announced that World of Warcraft’s Shadowlands expansion won’t release on October 27, as initially planned. However, the developer is still aiming at releasing it before the end of the year.

In yesterday’s statement, John Hight (WoW executive) shared that the purpose of the delay is to allow for additional work on the expansion. The additional time is needed for two reasons. The first is that this next expansion will be “one of the most intricate expansions” the game has ever seen. The second is, of course, constraints imposed by the global pandemic.

There is a bit of good news though. The expansion’s pre-patch will release on October 13. The patch will prepare players for the expansion’s release. It will include a revamp to character leveling, a new starting zone and some new character customization options.
