Game Freak came in for a lot of criticism when they announced that Pokémon Sword and Shield would limit the number of Pokémon available to 400. This decision, playfully termed ‘Dexit’, angered longstanding fans who had hoped to see all 800+ of their favourite creatures in-game.
As you probably heard, Nintendo revealed The Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra expansions during their recent Livestream. They also announced that 200 new or returning Pokémon will be available with them.
Naturally, a fierce debate has begun as to who the 200 should include.
Considering Galar is based on the UK, surely Stoutland will be one of them. After all, it doesn’t get more British than our favourite Yorkshire terrier-based ‘mon.
Please, Game Freak?
Who Do We Know for Sure?
IGN has provided a useful breakdown of who appeared in the expansion trailer. The headlines have been dominated by the new legendaries, Kubfu, Urshifu, Calyrex and new members of the Regi- family. What looked like Galarian forms of Zapdos, Articuno and Moltres were also teased.
However, the initial release of Sword and Shield certainly seemed to have numerous glaring omissions of iconic characters.
For example, it had seemed strange that iconic starter Pokémon like Bulbasaur and Squirtle had been left out of the franchise’s eighth-generation.
However, Gigantamax versions of Venusaur and Blastoise pictured in the trailer all but confirm their return.
Other classic Pokémon, like Kingdra, Psyduck and Chansey, featured in the trailer. So too did more recent but much-loved critters like Talonflame and Garchomp. The Crown Tundra will also play host to a star-studded cast of legendaries, from Azelf to Zygarde.
Who Do You Want to See?
Obviously, everyone has their favourite Pokémon. However, even with 600 in total, the Galarian Pokédex will still be missing over 200 ‘mons.
So who’s indispensable?
I’m lucky that my favourites are Espeon and Umbreon. As Eeveelutions they’re always present in the first wave.
Having said that, I was gutted to see that Absol wasn’t there. Probably every Pokémon out there is someone’s favourite. Even Dunsparce.
Some people like cute Pokémon. Others like strong, cool Pokémon. There are even folks out there who like downright weird Pokémon. (I’m looking at you, Trubbish!) Let us know in the comments what you want to see in the expansions.
