The Age of Empires Fan Event has JUST finished and we’ve learnt a lot! So let’s unpack what we know, starting with the MAJOR news.
Age of Empires IV
Yes! The long-awaited sequel, last teased during X019 (That’s 2019 to you and me) was the major pull of the event and we’ve been patiently waiting for even a glimmer of news about it! Finally, though Microsoft delivered so let’s go through what was announced.
First of all, A LOT of gameplay was revealed for AoE IV and it looks better than ever. Alongside the English, Chinese and Mongolian civilisations, a brand new civilisation was featured; The Delhi Sultanate, which you’ll be able to play as, as you go through each Age, starting with the Dark Age and ending with the Imperial Age.
But what of the campaign I hear you ask?
Well, you’ll have a choice of four campaigns. While only one was featured, the new campaign ‘The Norman Conquest of 1066’ takes place during… well the Norman Conquest. You can either fight with William the Conqueror or try and push him back to Normandy.
A closed Beta is on the way and to take part you must become an Age Insider, which you can do so right here
Age of Empires IV is expected to be released in Autumn 2021
Microsoft hasn’t forgotten about its AoE II & III players either, as each game is getting some major updates! Let’s take a look.
Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition
For you AoE III: DE players mark April 13th in your diaries as that’s the day you’ll be getting your first major update. In the update, you’ll gain access to the US Civilisation, which comes with nine new units, a new explorer and a new home city.
The New civilisation will be available free for a limited time, by completing the ‘Fifty State Challenge’ or you can purchase it through the Windows/Steam Store.
Also teased for a future preview was the news that’ll AoE will be showcasing an African civilisation for the game soon.
Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition
The big news for AoE II:DE players is that you’ll be getting new content this summer! Titled ‘Dawn of the Dukes’ the DLC will take you to Eastern Europe in a brand new campaign for you to enjoy!
Also, for the first time, you and a friend will be able to join forces in handpicked historical co-op battles. Just make sure you strategize together.
