Watch Dogs: Legion roadmap includes franchise crossover

Watch Dogs: Legion, Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world action/adventure game, set in a dystopian (or nearly real-world) London has unveiled its one-year roadmap which includes an old friend, co-op and a crossover with a certain guild of Assassin’s.

Revealed during a new announcement trailer, Ubisoft announced several DLC post-launch including an Online mode which will include the full London sandbox from the get-go, cross-play and several game modes.

The Online mode will allow up to 4-players full access to London, recruiting anyone you find. There will be new co-op missions and Dynamic Events (In-game real-time events) for you to try out. Invasion mode also makes a welcome return to the series as well. Could this be Ubisoft’s answer to GTA Online?

Also teased was the series first PvP mode ‘Spiderbot Arena’, an eight-player free for all. On first glance this looks like Robot Wars with actual weapons so you know… pretty cool. They have also teased more PvP modes coming soon.

One person and the Police’ll have to break them up… at least they’re all wearing masks

On the single-player side of things, you’ll be getting new missions and some new characters to interact and use in your fight against Zero-Day, Albion and Clan Kelley.

Already teased last month alongside Stormzy, Watch Dogs’ Aiden Pierce will be playable in a new set of missions entitled ‘Bloodline’. Joining him is Wrench from Watch Dogs 2 along with two other new characters Mina, a trans-human with mind control abilities and Darcy.

Darcy is part of the Assassin’s Brotherhood in London, and you’ll be able to use her stealth and Assassin abilities in full.

It should be noted, however, that she is more of fan service to players, and not part of the official Assassin’s Creed canon, but her backstory will be woven in AC lore.

Nothing is true…everything is permitted…even in London

This isn’t the first time that Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed have collided. Of course, the small nods and references have cropped up in both WD and WD2, but the main crossover came with Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag.

In the original Watch Dogs mission ‘Requiescat In Pace’, you are tasked with finding and killing Olivier Garneau who appeared in the modern-day sections of Black Flag.

In the mission, you are tasked with taking Olivier out. At the end of the encounter, he barely survives. But if you scan him with your profiler device it says ‘Targeted by the Brotherhood’. These events are later recapped in Assassin’s Creed Origins, making them fully integrated into the AC canon.

Watch Dogs Legion is scheduled for release 29th October 2020 on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia. PS5, Xbox Series S and X versions launching 29th October 2020 (The day the console’s launch).
