Wasteland 3, the upcoming post-apocalyptic RPG from inXile, has been delayed until August.
Brian Fargo took to Twitter to make the announcement. The company’s new work-from-home environment has been cited as the main factor.
However, Fargo is also optimistic about the game going forward.
“As with most companies, we moved to a work-from-home environment some weeks ago. And that’s, of course, introduced new challenges that many of us throughout the world have been learning to manage. We’ve been excited to see the Wasteland 3 Beta so well received. But the reality is that with these new logistical challenges our release was going to be impacted.
We’re in a great position with both Microsoft and Deep Silver supporting our desire to ensure the game launches in the best possible circumstances and to add a few extra months to ensure this is a stellar product on day one. With that, Wasteland 3’s new release date is 28th August 2020.
That’s time we’re putting into acting on Beta feedback and suggestions. [This includes] optimisation, polishing, and refinement, and making sure we have an awesome co-op experience. We’re pouring our hearts into this game. The last thing we want is to have anything but an amazing launch product we truly believe in.
We appreciate everyone’s excitement and continued support as we put a few more months into ensuring that on launch day Wasteland 3 is the experience you’ve been waiting for”.
It Isn’t Going to Waste
Wasteland 3 will force players to survive a frozen, post-apocalyptic wasteland. One filled with ruins, dangerous machines, and more. Wasteland 3 is a squad-based RPG that features turn-based, isometric combat. It will also feature synchronous and asynchronous multiplayer gameplay.
Various choices the game gives players will impact the story and the world around them. Players familiar with Fallout and other such RPGs will recognise this trait as one of Fargo’s main gameplay tropes.
Due to the ongoing impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the industry, the original May release date has now been delayed. Thankfully, however, we do have a renewed release date this time around.
Wasteland 3 will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, and Linux.
