Sometimes the rumour mill comes through for us. It’s official, Ubisoft have officially confirmed Assassin’s Creed Mirage, with a trailer to follow next week.
Last week saw a glut of rumours all pointing at the next Assassin’s Creed gaming being called Assassin’s Creed Mirage. This followed Ubisoft publishing artwork related to the game’s DLC, giving credibility to the claims.
Whilst there was some dispute over the credibility of the leaked image, Ubisoft have now responded by confirming the game’s existence. The publisher has also promised a proper reveal, to be shown during the upcoming Ubisoft Forward presentation. This is currently scheduled to air next week on Saturday, September 10th.
Ubisoft officially confirmed the existence of Assassin’s Creed Mirage in a Tweet yesterday
Ubisoft had previously revealed that they would discuss the future of the Assassin’s Creed series during the show, but now we know a little of what to expect. Whilst we only have the name and a few images, everything seems to align with the rumours currently circulating. The claims saw the new game based in Baghdad, which certainly seems to be the case based on the artwork.
The leaked pictures seem to confirm a Middle Eastern setting, although its unclear if the One Thousand and One Nights theme is DLC specific, or a constant throughout the main game.
In turn, this gives us further faith in the other rumours. For example, the main character is said to be Basim Ibn Ishaq, who was first introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. In turn this could confirm that Assassin’s Creed Mirage started as an expansion for Valhalla, before becoming it’s own game.
Back to Basics
Perhaps the most interesting rumour, however is yet unconfirmed. This claims that the game will ditch some of the role-playing elements introduced in some of the more recent series entries. Instead, it’s claimed, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will return to the more traditional, stealth focused formula of the original titles.
Apparently the original plan was to release this year, but Ubisoft has already delayed the title until summer 2023. Either way, we’d expect some indication of the release window given in the upcoming Ubisoft Forward presentation next week.
Of course, Assassin’s Creed Mirage isn’t the only series reveal expected at the event. Ubisoft confirmed its intention to launch Assassin’s Creed Infinity, a live service platform for the series. Although this was announced last year, we have as yet heard next to nothing on the publisher’s ambitions here. Expect detail to be forthcoming on this, too.
