Trading Coming Soon to Pokémon GO

Get ready Trainers, Niantic has announcement that one of the more sought after features by Pokémon GO trainers since the release of the game a couple years ago is coming soon to Pokémon GO.  That’s right, Niantic is bringing Trading to Pokémon GO.  Believe it or not but the update is set to roll out to Trainers later this week.

Over the years Niantic has gradually upgraded and added to the social component of the game, but still as trainers we couldn’t share captures with our friends to help them out.  It was every trainer for themselves.  On June 18, 2018 Niantic announced that they are adding 2 additional social aspects to the game:  a friends list and trading.

So how does it work?

Each trainer has a Trainer Code.  You will be able to invite a Trainer to become your friend by entering their Trainer Code and sending them a friend request.  Once they are added to your list this is when the fun begins.

You will have the ability to send you friends special gifts that you obtain from PokéStops and Gyms.  The gifts are meant to be sent to a friend; Niantic has advised that you will not be able to open them yourself.  Although they have not provided a list of the items in the gift, they have advised that a special 7km egg could be included in the gift that when hatched will reveal an Alolan form of a Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region.

Sending gifts to your friends, joining them in a gym battles and raids will increase your Friendship Level which will unlock bonuses, such as an Attack bonus, when you play together.

For Trainers who are Level 10 or higher you will also have the ability to trade Pokémon with your friends.  There are a couple catches to this ability that you need to be aware of however.  First you both need to be in the same location to complete the trade and Stardust is required in order to do the trade.  Pokémon that are not already in your Pokédex, shiny Pokémon and Legendary Pokémon will require a Special Trade that can only occur once per day with a Great or Best Friend and will require a large amount of Stardust.

Check out Niantic’s announcement for complete details.

See you in the field Trainers!
