Team17 Acquires Golf With Your Friends

Team17, most famously associated with the hugely popular Worms franchise, has announced that they have acquired the rights and assets to Golf With Your Friends for a tidy sum of £12 Million.

Originally, GWYF launched in early access in 2016 by Blacklight Interactive, before Team17 stepped in to help publish the game in May 2020 to PC and ports for last-gen consoles.

According to a statement to the press, the acquisition will:

…Create additional opportunities to extend the life cycle of the existing game, that will include additional DLC, with ideas for a potential sequel also being explored.

Team17 CEO Debbie Bestwick added to the statement by saying:

We are delighted to start 2021 with the announcement that we have acquired GWYF and see great potential in this IP.

Over the last two years, GWYF has shown strong consumer demand and mass-market appeal, doubling its owner base and achieving success on multiple gaming platforms. GWYF is the type of IP we believe is right for ownership, it is successful and proven but still at the start of its journey. The team at Blacklight Interactive can be assured that we will take great care of this amazing IP.

No word yet as to what Blacklight Interactive will be working on next, or what Team17 are planning to do with GWYF but expect an announcement in the near future.

Golf With Your Friends is out now on PS4, PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
