Take-Two Comments on Classic GTA Remaster Rumours

During Take-Two’s most recent earnings call [you’ll probably be aware of it as we mentioned about it in our previous news article], the attention, inevitably, went to Grand Theft Auto.

Grand Theft Auto V is, undoubtedly, the franchise’s most popular and lucrative title.

However, that’s not where all of the attention lied.

During the call, Eric Handler of MKM Partners, asked;

“…But it seems like there is a huge audience of people that have probably never played GTA IV or any of the other prior GTA games that came out before that. And I just wonder, … what’s your perspective there in terms of thinking about remastering pre-prior games”.

Aside from not being the most direct in his questioning, Handler might be acutely aware of several rumours circling around about GTA. A Reddit “leaker” detailed how GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, and IV are getting remastered… “soon”. More fuel was added to the fire when some more San Andreas rumours wormed their way into Reddit’s collective attention. Naturally, Rockstar has not commented on the rumours one way or another.

“Soon”

Getting back to the story at hand, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, responded to Handler, saying;

“I’d say it’s a great and encouraging question. I’m kind of inclined to leave it more as a statement than a question. And any updates on our release schedule will come from Rockstar Games”.

And, that’s probably as close to a ‘confirmation’ as we’re going to get from Take-Two right now. Rockstar is (in)famous for not releasing much information about its games until it wants to [a move some other developers could certainly learn from, I’m sure]. And Zelnick’s didn’t affirm that any such remasters are under development, he didn’t deny their existence either.

As is so often the case, we’ll have to wait and see what happens. Until then, here is a fan-made trailer for San Andreas trailer for us all to enjoy. Who knows? One day, we might get the real thing.
