Director Taika Waititi spoke with Varity on Monday. Fresh off his win of an Oscar for his screenplay for “Jojo Rabbit”, he talked about his future projects.
Currently, Waititi is in the editing process for his latest movie “Next Goal Wins”. He is hoping to have it all wrapped up before the end of the year. After that he is jumping right back into things with Marvel’s Thor.
This next Thor film will bring Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster into the center stage as she takes the power of the God of Thunder for herself. Set to release in November 2021, “Thor: Love and Thunder” will be the fourth Thor film. After wrapping, Waititi then has the plan to head to work on Akira.
The live-action Akira has already been delayed by almost two years at this point. The delay comes from Waititi devoting his time to keep working on his other “soft date” projects. These projects haven’t been set in stone as others like his projects with large studios like Disney. Disney and Marvel properties like Thor, are on very specific dates that won’t be moved.
“Post-‘Thor’. So I’m not sure if even in two years I’d be — I don’t know what I’m doing in f—ing two days. I think eventually it will happen. I’m just not sure if I’ll be doing it. “-Taika Waititi to Varity
Thrown in with his personal projects and Marvel dealing, he’s even dipped into the universe of Star Wars. He has both directing and voicing for Disney’s “The Mandalorian”. There always the rumor of possibility for more work.
