Super Rare Games Announces New Physical Label

Super Rare Games Announces New Physical Label

Super Rare Games [SRG], one of the world’s leading physical games publishers, is incredibly proud to reveal a brand new venture for physical games with its Super Rare Shorts label!

The first of several new upcoming expansions, Shorts are a line-up of video games available exclusively as physical editions. And only for the Nintendo Switch. That’s right – no Steam release, no release on another platform, and not even a Nintendo Switch digital release. These games will only ever be available in this format. All the content will be on the cartridge with full cover art & exquisite packaging.

Super Rare Shorts titles will be completely original, totally exclusive games for the new label. Glass Revolver [ITTA, HOUSE OF GOD] will be the first developer to benefit from this project. This game will be available via a month-long open preorder window later this year. Super Rare will print 5,000 copies initially. So, fans won’t have to wait long to receive them. Super Rare will ship additional orders roughly a month after the preorder window has closed.

Shorts can be anything from;

  • Completely independent, entirely from-the-ground-up original titles by up-and-coming and/or veteran indie developers
  • Finished versions of promising prototypes,
  • Smaller-scope games that will be vastly different
  • And more definitive versions of promising titles that struggled to get the spotlight
  • They could even be expanded jam games from larger internal studios.

Multiple Shorts games are currently in development.

Super Rare has worked with over 50 developers across the last three and a half years. As such, Super Rare aims to boost indie developers beyond what the market currently provides for smaller-scale games. These devs might struggle to gain mass-market appeal. And, through working with Super Rare, will fall in line with its aim to become “indie’s best friend”.

Currently, there are massive visibility issues for digital indie games. (Generally) indie publishers are passing smaller-scope games as the publishers look for larger-scope, high-profit titles. Shorts aims to showcase awesome titles that would otherwise never see the light of day or receive the audience they deserve.

Super Rare hopes that funding these projects will not only mean they’ll reach a passionate audience of indie game fans. Hopefully, it will mean indie developers can generate more money to fund their next projects. Sometimes, this may even result in the developers achieving more visibility, sales, and a higher level of profit than their previous releases.
