Summer Game Fest – Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase Round-up

The 2022 Summer Game Fest event has been in full swing for a number of days, already.

However, as the temperature rises, so too does the number of games announced.

And it doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon.

Here is the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase round-up;

The first-person vampire-killing action-romp kicked things off with a tasty gameplay trailer. Expect plenty of Arkane’s gunplay mechanics coupled with the studio’s supernatural sensibilities going on.

Plenty to sink your teeth into. Sorry.

One of the long-awaited titles for this generation, Requiem follows Amicia and Hugo as they continue their journey across France. Stealth, the supernatural, and plenty of stabbing will see Requiem‘s heroes through a bleak, Black Plague-ridden Europe.

Expect rats.

Forza Motorsport, by Turn 10

A new entry into the Forza mainline series, this new game is lacking the numerical sequencing seen on previous entries. Whether this is a reboot or not is not quite clear. What is clear, however, is that this is a thing of beauty! The genre’s best racing mechanics are now coupled with dynamic day-and-night lighting, ambient temperatures affecting tyres, and more.

Coming Spring 2023 to Xbox Game Pass, PC, and cloud.

Microsoft Flight Simulator, by Asobo Studio

The series’ 40th anniversary sees the game soar to new heights! Microsoft Flight Simulator is getting an update later this year. Helicopters and gliders will be making their debut, and, most interestingly, Halo content will be dropping in – literally.

The 40th-anniversary update is coming this November, to Xbox Game Pass, PC. Meanwhile, the Halo content is already available.

Overwatch 2, by Blizzard Entertainment

As part of that acquisition, Xbox has access to all of Activision Blizzard King’s IP. As such, the Xbox (& Bethesda) event was the perfect space to showcase the upcoming Overwatch 2 with a brand-new trailer. What’s more, the game is going free-to-play this October.

Scorn, by Ebb Software

The H R Geiger-inspired biopunk horror survival game is another Xbox console launch exclusive. I know ABG‘s Commander-in-Chief, Darren Colley is eager for this one. It looks gruesome!

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, by A44 Games

A cool-looking, fantasy action-RPG where you’re tasked with defeating gods. The combat looks fluid enough that certain obsessive fans out there might want to take note.

Coming “early” 2023 to Xbox Game Pass

YouTube player

Minecraft Legends, by Mojang

A new entry into the ever-expanding Minecraft franchise, Legends is classified as being an “action strategy game”. I instantly thought of Overlord when I saw the gameplay footage, but, obviously, with Minecraft graphics and mechanics.

Coming in 2023 to Xbox Game Pass, PC, and other platforms

Coming 23 June to Xbox Game Pass (and PC, obviously)

YouTube player

Pentiment, by Obsidian Entertainment

Obsidian’s newest IP takes the form of a 2D, Olde English textbook narrative affair. That description doesn’t really do the game justice, however. Think the Bayeux Tapestry brought to life with the RPG-knowhow of Obsidian.

Coming November 2022 to Xbox Game Pass, PC, and cloud

YouTube player

Grounded Full Release, by Obsidian Entertainment

Double-dose of Obsidian! The team’s Honey, I Shrunk the Kids-esque video game is finally launching out of Game Preview status. Sea of Thieves: Season 7 – “The Captaincy”, by Rare

The pirate-themed MMO simply keeps going. To celebrate the upcoming seventh season of Rare’s Sea of Thieves, the team released a trailer. I say a trailer it’s more akin to a musical number. The new update/season sees all wayward pirates be able to buy their own ships, customise cabins, name your ship – as long as there’s no profanity – and much more.

Coming 21st July to Xbox Game Pass, PC, and cloud

Ravenlok, by Cococucumber

The dark twisted Canadian minds that brought us Echo Generation are back again. This time, they’ve done away with turn-based RPG and focused on a more action-RPG set-up for combat. Does that mean it’ll be any easier to win fights? Frick knows! WIll I still be playing it as part of a new Let’s Play series? I mean I’ve finally got over my voxel-demon-creature nightmares, so heck yeah!

Coming 2023 to Xbox Game Pass

YouTube player

Cocoon, by Geometric Interactive

From the creative mind that brought us Limbo and Inside comes a…relatively pleasant looking adventure. Of course, there’s always a catch with Jeppe Carlson. What we can say about Cocoon is that there’s plenty of world-bending physics at play. Literally, as Cocoon sees you adventure across worlds within worlds.

Coming 2023 to Xbox Game Pass

YouTube player

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, by Team Ninja

A dark and deeply atmospheric game featuring Later Han Dynasty militia and demonic forces. Fans of Nioh are bound to get a kick out of this.

Coming “early” 2023 to Xbox Game Pass and PC

The Persona Collection, by Atlus

Another forbidden door akin to the Yakuza series, Phil Spencer took to the stage to make this grand announcement. After a number of years and releases that have alluded the Green Team, the series will now be available on Xbox. That includes Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal. But it wasn’t the only quasi-PlayStation exclusive Big Phil announced would have a presence on Xbox…

Persona 5 Royal (the first of the three games to get the Xbox treatment) is coming this October to Xbox Game Pass and PC.

Xbox and Kojima Productions partnership

Yep, from one brain-melter to another. Big Phil is partnering up with Kojima himself to work on a new project that will revolutionise cloud streaming… Or something. Whatever it is, PlayStation fanboys have already spat their dummies out and made a petition to cancel the project. Because that’s how things work.

On the proposed project, Kojima said;

“…there is a game I have always wanted to make. It’s a completely new game, one that no one has ever experienced or seen before. I’ve waited very long for the day when I could finally start to create it.

With Microsoft’s cutting-edge cloud technology and the change in the industry’s trend, it has now become possible to challenge myself to make this never-before-seen concept.

It may take some time, but I’m looking forward to teaming up with Xbox Game Studios and hope to bring you some exciting news in the future!”

YouTube player

Starfield, by Bethesda

The show concluded with Phil passing the reigns over to Todd Howard. Howard then proceeded to introduce the world to the first gameplay footage of Starfield. Boasting massive character creation and ship customisation options as well as the ability to explore over 1,000 planets in over a hundred star systems. That last bit will remain to be seen. But there’s gunplay and ship combat, as well as that classic Bethesda first-person dialogue.

But that’s enough talking.

Coming 2023 to Xbox Game Pass, PC, and console
