Splinter Cell’s Creative Director Returns to Ubisoft

In an effort to differentiate it’s games, Ubisoft will be reorganising it’s editorial team. According to VGC, this will see Splinter Cell‘s creative director, Maxime Beland, return to the company. Reportedly, as a new vice president for the influential editorial team.

A Storied Past

Beland spent 20 years at Ubisoft, before his departure in 2019 to join Epic Games. During his tenure, he worked as creative director on Rainbow Six: Vegas, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist, not to mention his contributions to the original Assassin’s Creed and the later Far Cry installments.

It’s unclear, however, whether Beland’s return will see a revival of the Splinter Cell series. Though; there have been a couple of hints in the last few years that this could be the case.

More Splinter Cell?

Back in 2018, a listing appeared on Amazon’s Canadian website simply titled “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell 2018”, before it was taken down. Then in 2019, one of Ubisoft’s own developers tweeted that he was working on the next Splinter Cell. Unfortunately, said developer then went on to state that he was “joking”.

With over six years separating us from the most recent Splinter Cell, perhaps Beland’s return will see Sam Fisher don his signature goggles for at least one more ride.
