Sony Interactive Entertainment and Tencent have both increased their shareholdings in FromSoftware.
The announcement came from FromSoft’s parent company, Kadokawa Corporation.
Sony’s stake in the developer has now increased to 14.09%.
Meanwhile, Tencent (through its subsidiary brand, Sixjoy Hong Kong Ltd) has increased its stake to 16.25%.
However, Kadokawa will remain the majority shareholder, maintaining 69.66% of the shares.
Sony and Tencent’s increased stocks and shares mean FromSoft has gained 36,399,550,000 yen [£225,677,210/$262,268,221] from the deal.
And it turns out that FromSoft will be using that investment to further expand its own publishing power.
Kadokawa notes how the funds will help “the expansion of the scope of [FromSoft’s] own publishing in the significantly growing global market”.
In its native Japan, FromSoft self-publishes its titles.
However, in Western markets, it licenses its IPs out to more established publishers, namely Bandai Namco.
