After rumours surfaced of a multiplayer version of Marvel’s Spider-Man, there may be more to this story.
Recently, VGC reported on a rumoured PlayStation PC launcher
Evidence suggests that Sony is considering a move into PC gaming, in a bid to further compete with Microsoft, Valve, et al.
The idea of swinging around the ‘Spider-verse’ with other players is enough to set anyone’s Spidey-sense tingling.
Recent releases and investments in PlayStation PC and PC porting specialists Nixxes give weight to the PlayStation PC Launcher rumour. With this, alongside investments into first-party games, it is clear there is a drive within the Sony hierarchy to expand the reach of PlayStation games.
Sony has already released a handful of PlayStation Studio games on PC. And there is a definite appetite for it, with Google searches for “Ghost of Tsushima PC” a breakout topic.
One consideration for the Sony boardroom is how the ‘loss’ of exclusivity might impact the commercial performance of PlayStation hardware.
The release dates of the current and upcoming games suggest a three to five-year window of exclusivity. However, this could largely be coloured by the time taken to acquire companies like Nixxes.
