Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Details Upcoming Projects

SIE CEO confirms games on track for 2021 release, and PS VR 2 is a thing!

In an interview with CQ Magazine, Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment made comments about the future of Playstation and SIE, and what we can expect in the semi-near future. Head over to CQ for the full interview, else we have the highlights here.

First up Jim gives some details about how Playstation is performing, with the PS5 outstriping PS4 during their respective launch windows. And part of that increase will be that 1/4 of PS5 owners did not own a PS4. Which is probably why they’re so hard to find in the wild! But he assures us more are on the way.

Now, for the games. SIE are feeling confident that some of their games will be making an appearance in some capacity in 2021. Specifically, Returnal, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. However if the games aren’t ready, they won’t be shipped. And after the Cyberpunk debacle we can all agree that’s for the best. Grand Turismo 7 however has officially slipped into 2022.

“We’re feeling pretty good about Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Horizon Forbidden West

Jim Ryan

Playstation VR will be making a come-back. Offering less wires and more improvements and innovations; Dev kits of which will be on their way shortly. No games have yet been announced and no confirmation about the how VR games work between the two different versions of the hardware.

And finally, Jim confirmed that alongside the Play At Home initiative (of Playstation giving away free games outside of a PS Plus subscription). All new games as we saw with games like Bugsnax will continue to happen going forward.

So there we have it, you’re up to date on what is happening in the world of SIE. Nothing firm, but it’s nice to have some clarity on what to expect and what may or may not be coming in the future. Thanks Jim!
