Sky: Children Of The Light Players Help to Raise Over $1 Million For Charity

The studio behind future Switch and current mobile game Sky: Children of the Light have announced that following it’s two charity events in April & May, that over $1 million dollars has been raised for Doctors Without Borders.

With the aid of mircrotransactions, Thatgamecompany offered all the proceeds from in-game cosmetics sold towards charity.

During April’s Earth Day event in Sky: Children Of The Light, Thatgamecompany partnered with reforestation charity One Tree Planted; in aid of planting trees in Australia and sections of the Amazon Rainforest.

April’s event in Sky: Children Of The Light alone helped to plant over 40,000 trees, which is a fantastic effort from everyone involved.

May Continued the Aid

To aid Doctors Without Borders’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in May the game’s developers released a cosmetic pack in-game.

With 100% of the profits going to the organisation, helping to tackle the outbreak.

“We are so overwhelmed by the generosity of Sky’s global community,”.

“Originally, we asked how could our studio help during the pandemic? We couldn’t have predicted the altruistic behaviors in-game would translate to real life action and giving to frontline workers.”

Creative Director, Jenova Chen

Hard Work Pays Off

Considering the gameplay of Sky: Children Of The Light is based around the concept of generosity towards other players, it isn’t surprising that the studio would endeavor to do as much good as they can in the real world.

The studios hard work was recently recognised when they won the Games for Change People’s Choice award.

Whilst also scooping the Best Gameplay award to boot.

You can pick up Sky: Children Of The Light free on iOS and Android right now, with a future release on the Nintendo Switch scheduled for later in 2020.
