The backwards compatibility feature for Xbox Series X/S is one of the consoles’ biggest selling points. The ability to play all your old favourite games, from previous generations, is a great perk for a lot of players. Some games even perform better on the new consoles with improvements such as auto-HDR.
The last batch of backwards-compatible games came out last fall and Microsoft made it clear then that we shouldn’t expect any more games due to licensing issues. However, since Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard some licenses should be available for some Activision titles. According to Nick “Shpeshal Nick” Backer, a prominent Microsoft insider claims that the list of Xbox backwards compatible titles is expanding soon.
In the latest episode of XboxEra Podcast, Mr Shpeshal says we can expect another final batch of retro additions, although, we shouldn’t expect any Marvel titles or games with external licensing. We can however hope for two or three games, that should be fairly obvious and immediately front of mind.
