On January 16th, 2020, CD Projekt Red announced Cyberpunk 2077’s delay until September. Shortly after, it was reported that; segments of a recent investment call (Courtesy of Exclusively Games) officially detail some of the reasons for delay. However, this isn’t the whole story, as an unofficial Polish CDPR insider claims the primary reason for the 5 month put-off, in a recent rumor circulating from a popular podcast. The clip presented in question is in Polish, and translations indicate the issue lies with current generation consoles not being powerful enough to properly handle Cyberpunk 2077.
Now, according to Borys Niespielak (reportedly), Cyberpunk has dramatic performance issues on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox one, more significantly, with the original Xbox.
These statements are absolutely rumors that should be taken with a grain of salt, however it should be noted that Borys’ claims are substantiated by his sources. As previously stated by CDPR, Cyberpunk 2077 is in a playable state, however that doesn’t mean it’s in an acceptable or commercially viable position to launch. The hype for Cyberpunk 2077 is off the charts, and CDPR knows they must do their absolute best to match those expectations.
