The original creator of the Max Payne games, Remedy Entertainment today announced something rather special. Together with GTA developer Rockstar, it will be remaking the iconic Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne for modern consoles and PC.
The relationship between the two developers dates all the way back to the original release of the critically acclaimed debut title. Whilst Remedy was responsible for the development, the game was in fact published by Rockstar Games. Both games are worthy of their numerous accolades, leaving an indelible mark in popular culture. They were coveted for their dark, neo-noir atmospheres, intricate storytelling, and of course, the iconic “bullet-time” mechanic. This is from Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games,
“We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games. We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”

Remedy CEO Tero Virtala continued with his own comments,
“Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same. We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action, and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”
Under the agreement, signed yesterday, Remedy will develop and release the 2 games as a single title. The studio plans to release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S. It will use its propriaory Northlight game engine, whilst Rockstar will foot the bill. The agreement will also provide Remedy with a royalty opportunity once Rockstar has recouped its investment on the Max Payne rework.
