10:15 – And that concludes the PS5 reveal event! 25 new games, a look at the console but no price sadly. Horizon Sequel, Demon’s Souls remake, Spider-Man sequel, and loads of fantastic looking indies. Must admit, I’m disappointed we didn’t get a price. That suggests to me that they’re keeping in quiet for now because they know it will upset people. Thanks for sticking around to ABG’s Live Report on the PS5 Reveal!

10:11 pm BST – The console has been revealed. Looks futuristic, like a fancy router.
Two variants available; Standard, and Digital Edition, which lacks a disc drive. Dual tone, white and black, like the DualSense. I don’t think I’m crazy about it- it looks like a dust magnet, and the design looks like a fake PS4 leak from 2009. No price.

10:09 pm BST Developers from dozens of different studios talking about how excited they are for the next generation of gaming, and welcome the audience to PlayStation 5.

10:07 pm BST Horizon II: Forbidden West revealed. Sequel to Horizon: Zero Dawn. Aloy explores all sorts of new climates and environments, including the ocean.

10:04 pm BSTPragmata revealed. I have no idea what’s going on. There’s an astronaut, a little girl, and a holographic cat. Now they’re in space. Still no idea what’s going on. Looks Kojima-ey. Coming 2022.

09:59 pm BST Resident Evil VIII: Village revealed. Chris Redfield and Ethan Winters returning.

09:56 pm BSTDeathloop revealed. First-person shooter about escaping assassins in an infinite time loop. From Arkane Lyone.

09:54 pm BST – Demon’s Souls remake revealed. From Bluepoint Games, developers of the Shadow of Colossus remake , no release date.

09:53 pm BST– Shuhei Yoshida showed up! Lovely man. Got something exciting to show us I bet.

09:50 pm BST Bugsnax revealed, from the creators of Octodad. Looks incredibly, fantastically bizarre. You grow fruit and animals on a farm and when you eat food you become it? A character eats a strawberry and her arm turns into strawberries. I don’t know anymore. This is nothing like NBA. Looks like it has a great sense of humour.

09:48 pm BST – They’re talking about NBA now, so I’m going to make a cup of tea.

09:46 pm BSTLittle Devil Inside revealed. Gorgeous fantasty world adventure game indie with a fantastically stylised aesthetic. I feel like Wes Anderson would like this game.

09:45 pm BSTAstro’s Playroom revealed. Spin-off featuring the characters from The Playroom for PSVR.

09:44 pm BST – aaand just like that, back to photo-realism. Hitman 3 revealed. Available January 2021. Conclusion of the trilogy.

09:43 pm BSTTHOUGHT: I love that we’re getting a glimpse at what non-photorealistic next-gen graphics looks like. Heavily styled and gorgeous – but not anywhere near our world. Like playable animated movies.

09:41 pm BSTSolar Ash Revealed. Colourful third person platformer/action game.

09:40 pm BST Godfall revealed. From Gearbox. Third person action game. Available Holiday 2020.

09:38 pm BSTJett: The Far Shore revealed. I have no idea what this game is.

09:35 pm BSTGhostwire Tokyo revealed. First Person action game about exploring alternate realities in Cyberpunkey Tokyo. Published by Bethesda, so will be multi-platform.

09:34 pm BST New Oddworld title, Oddworld: Soulstorm revealed. Made my girlfriend go “Eewww”.

09:32 pm BSTGoodbye Volcano High revealed. Indie teen drama set in a high-school for fantasy creatures. Available 2021.

09:30 pm BSTKena: Bridge of Spirits revealed. Adorable looking fantasy adventure game. Developed by a studio with a background in film animation and it shows. It looks GORGEOUS! Aesthetic similar to Disney’s Tangled. Female protagonist! 🙂

09:28 pm BST Destruction All Stars revealed. Cartoony demolition derby game.

09:26 pm BSTSackboy: A Big Adventure revealed. Crucially, not LittleBigPlanet 4 (Sad face from me). A cute little platformer featuring Sackboy and several LBP elements (Bouncepads etc). Co-Op.

09:23 pm BSTReturnal revealed. Sci-Fi third person shooter. An astronaut relives a time loop on an alien planet, Groundhog Day style. Female Protagonist! 🙂

09:20 pm BST – A brief breakdown of the DualSense controller and the new hardware specs. Boasts the impressive-looking 3D Audio.

09:18 pm BSTStray Revealed. You play as a cat in a world without humans, only thse Cool little fellas.

09:10 pm BSTGran Turismo 7 revealed.

09:07 pm BSTSpider-Man: Miles Morales revealed. Unconfirmed if it’s a full-blown sequel or just an expansion for the first game. Seemingly an expansion for the Insomniac’s original game, using many of the same assets, but with a new story. Available this Holiday (!!!!)

09:05 pm BST – All PS5 owners will get access to GTA Online for free!

09:04 pm BSTGTA V was revealed to coming to PS5 with enhanced features, and most curiously “Expanded”. does that mean we’re finally getting GTA V Story dlc?

09:03 pm BST – The event has started with a brief sizzle reel of PlayStation’s history, even reusing the original PS1 logo!

09:00 pm BST – The event is about to begin.

08:52pm BST – As I talked about a bit below, I think pricing is absolutely CRUCIAL tonight. Last nights Amazon leak suggested that it could be $599 (around £475), repeating the dangers of that disasterous E3 2006 PS3 Reveal. What price would appeal to you? I don’t think I could justify spending more than £350.

08:46 pm BST – What are you hoping to see from the review today? Tweet me @_Georgeglynn, and lets talk! Some of my dreams (Not predictions)

  • Metal Gear Solid 1 Remake
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced Edition
  • Half LIfe: Alyx for PSVR 2!

08:30 pm BST – 30 minutes until we get our first glimpse of the next generation of gaming. A few predictions before we get going!

  • Demon Souls Remake by Bluepoint Games

  • No Spider-Man 2

Original Post As Follows

Today, at 9pm British Summertime/ 1pm Pacific Time, Sony officially reveals what is being billed as “the future of gaming”; The PlayStation 5.

The pre-recorded event will be streamed at 1080p, 30fps on Sony’s Twitch and YouTube channels.

If you’re unable to watch the stream live, or would simply rather get a straight forward breakdown of the reveal, ABG will be updating this page live with breaking news on the emerging details about the console, and premiere game reveals as they happen.

Once your British clock hits 9pm, or your Pacfic watch beeps for 1pm, make sure you’re hitting that refresh button (or ctrl + R) with every passing minute to stay up to date on the latest breaking news.

While this live report will stick to facts and and figures, I’ll also be live-tweeting the event with my personal thoughts @_GeorgeGlynn.

In the meantime, here’s a little about what we’re expecting to see in tonights reveal event!

The Console

First off, I’d like to see the actual unit that I’ll get to put under my TV. I want to know how big it is (Hopefully smaller than my VCR-like launch Xbox One), how it lights up, and how it looks next to my other consoles.

While this might sound like an obvious request, I wouldn’t put it past Sony to just show us some gameplay and a few reveals and call it a day. But, if that happens, know that this reporter would be dissapointed.

The Controller In Action

Though Sony might have already revealed the Playstation 5’s new controller, The DualSense, there’s still a lot more that I want to know about it.

The DualSense name replaces the long standing DualShock moniker for PlayStation’s first-party controllers, named so for the dual rumble packs housed across the left and right controller grips.

So, what exactly is it that differentiates the DualSense so drastically from the DualShock, so much so that it needed a new name? I’ll be honest with you – I don’t fully know yet.

While much attention has been pointed to the inclusion of Haptic Feedback in the DualSense, which will supposedly add “a variety of powerful sensations you’ll feel when you play” – this isn’t anything new.

Nintendo’s JoyCon controllers boasted haptic feedback (or HDRumble as theyc called it) when the Nintendo Switch released in 2017. Going even further back, Valve’s Steam controllers have featured haptic feedback since 2013 without feeling the need to make a big deal about it.

While not much else is known about the controller, Thomas Was Alone developer Mike Bithell recently teased that the DualSense will offer some exciting audio features.

The Price

Really, this is the most crucial detail that will make-or-break PlayStation 5’s success.

When the PlayStation 3 was revealed at E3 2006 with a $599 price tag, Playstation cemented themselves as the second choice to the $399 Xbox 360 before either console had even made it to store shelves.

The tables turned in the next generation when the $399 Playstation 4 outsold the $499 Xbox One.

Though die-hard fanboys and console wars will always claim to justify the pricing point of their chosen console, for the general public, pricing matters. And I strongly suspect that whichever console offers the lower price – especially amidst a global pandemic which is crushing economies – will dominate the next generation.

Recently, an Amazon listing suggested that the PlayStation 5 could be repeating the mistakes of the past quite literally, with yet another supposed $599 price tag.

It is worth noting that 2020’s $599 is very different to 2006’s $599 however.

The Games

Of course, the real headlines of this event are going to come from the game reveals.

Though I believe pricing is the single deciding factor in a consoles success, titles available on launch certainly take a close second.

There really wasn’t much between the Xbox 360 and PS3 launch line up’s – unless you consider Kameo: Elements Of Power and Haze as must-buy, system-sellers.

But by the laucnh of the eighth generation, the PlayStation 4 certainly appealed more to the core FPS audience with Killzone: Shadowfall, whereas Xbox took a gamble on the fighting game audience with a reboot of Killer Instinct.

In regards to PS5’s line-up, recent leaks suggest that we could get to see Crash Bandicoot return, and even a sequel to Horizon: Zero Dawn at tonight’s event.

That’s what I’m expecting – but guess we’ll all find out together at 1pm PT and 9pm BST tonight! Remember, keep this tab open, and start mashing that refresh button as soon as the event starts.
