Pokémon GO AR+ now available on Android

Earlier this year Niantic made a change to the Augmented Reality function of Pokémon GO.   At the time the update was only available for iPhone users.  Last week Niantic announced the release of AR+ function for Android users.

What is AR+ and how will it improve Pokémon GO?  Pokémon GO is an augmented reality game that allows the player to view the Pokémon in the real world through the use of the phone’s camera.  The previous AR abilities of Pokémon GO were good but limited.  With AR+ the Pokémon are scaled to fit the environment.

The Pokémon GO team explains the feature further: “As you walk up to a Pokémon, it scales in size and will notice your movement! Get up close before you throw your Poké Ball to make the Pokémon easier to catch, and even earn an Expert Handler bonus!! Or you can tap the camera icon to take a photo of your subject in the environment around you.”

In order to access this enhanced AR ability, Android players will need to first download the ARCore from the Google Play store.  The ARCore is free to download.
