PlayStation Won’t Be Attending E3 2020

Shocking news has emerged recently; PlayStation will be missing E3 for the second year in a row.

Sony told GamesIndustry.biz that they do not feel that the path they are currently on coincides with the event itself. Instead, Sony is opting to attend “hundreds” of consumer-focused events to showcase upcoming games for the PlayStation 4 and 5.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, a spokesperson for Sony Interactive Entertainment said;

“After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020. We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.

We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favourite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.”

PlayStation has used the event to showcase their new, upcoming consoles since 1995 – the year they unveiled the PlayStation One. So, for them to skip out on not one but two years in a row is very unusual.

However, ESA, the organisers of E3, has struggled in recent years to satisfy their members. Publishers like EA and Sony want to take the event in more of a fan celebration of the games. Alternatively, others would like it to remain the same industry-focused event it has been.

Either way, it is a blow to the fans to miss out on PlayStation conference this year nevermind it being the second one in a row. But do tell us down in the comments on what you think about this.
