Sony has recently released this year’s financial report, and there is one major piece of news coming from it. The PlayStation 4 is now, officially, the second best-selling home console ever!
As of 2019, Sony has shipped some 102.8 million units. This firmly places it ahead of the Nintendo Wii and even the PlayStation 1. For reference sake, the Wii sold 101.63 million whilst the PS1 sold 102.49 million units respectively. Of course, the PS4 sales still pale in comparison to those boasted by the PlayStation 2. Just so we all remember, the PS2 sold in excess of 155 million units.
The PS4 does hold the slight distinction of being the fastest console to reach 100 million sales, however. Whilst the PS2 took five years and nine months to shift that magical figure, the PS4 did the feat in five years and seven months. Not a large margin, but it still puts the PS4 ahead.
Whether the PS4 can eclipse the overall sales figures of the PS2 before all is said and done remains to be seen. Of course, the PlayStation 5 launches next year. So, chances are, if anybody were getting a PS4, they would probably have already done so.
