No Man’s Sky’s Newest, Darkest Update

No Man’s Sky’s most-recent update channels its inner Aliens with the Desolation update, With derelict freighters and more surprises in-store, don’t stray too far from home…

No Man’s Sky has recently seen yet another update, and this time, things have gotten a little bit…Alien.

The Desolation Update brings in new, derelict freighters. Each of these freighters are filled with ruin and wreckage…and a monster or two.

As part of the update, you’ll fight through procedurally-generated freighters alongside added story content, combat improvements, and freighter customisation options.

The derelict freighters that drift along through space have been hastily abandoned. As a result, each of them contain plenty of reward for anyone brave enough to make their way through them. Because the freighters are all procedurally-generated, no two are alike.

Do not say we haven’t warned you…

Alongside these new features, the Desolation update brings a few quality-of-life upgrades. Key amongst which are;

  • Improved bloom effects on lighting, enhancing vibrancy and luminosity
  • Improved lens flare has seen the intensity and quality of lens flares updated. Additionally, the sun has now been made an additional source for lens flares
  • New lighting effects, including volumetric lighting and the Exosuit torch beam has been textured with “realistic lens artefacts”
  • Easier freighter inventory management system
  • Plus much more besides
