Nintendo to Stop Repairing Original 3DS and 3DS XL

A parts shortage is to blame

Update: Nintendo has announced that all repairs on the following consoles have been suspended in Japan as all the remaining parts required have all been allocated:

  • Original Nintendo 3DS – Model No. CTR-001 – Serial numbers begin with “CW” or “CB”
  • Original Nintendo 3DS XL – Model No. SPR-001 – Serial numbers begin with “SW” or “SB”
  • New Nintendo 3DS – Model No. KTR-001 – Serial numbers begin with “YW”

Original Story (10/03/21): Nintendo has announced that they can no longer repair your original 3DS and 3DSXL due to a parts shortage.

In an official statement on the company’s Japanese’s website, the company advised the following:

Due to the difficulty in securing the necessary parts for repair, we will no longer be able to accept repair requests for the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL as of March 31, 2021.

At this present moment, this only applies to Japan, however, expect other regional repair centres to follow suit, as the Covid-19 Pandemic has hit suppliers hard, and parts become harder to acquire.
