Nintendo Could Bring Cancelled 3DS Games to Switch

There are some rumours flying around that suggest Nintendo could consider bringing cancelled 3DS game to the Switch. Now, obviously, take this with a pinch of salt, but if it pans out, it’s pretty interesting.

Speaking to Kinda Funny, Imran Khan – the former editor of Game Informer – spoke about Nintendo’s plans. He shared information he had learnt including details about the closing of studio Alpha Dream. Alpha Dream had previously released Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr’s Journey. However, after the game only sold 11,000 copies in its debut month, Nintendo pulled the plug.

However, it wasn’t just the future of Mario & Luigi games that took a hit. Nintendo also reportedly scaled back on other 3DS projects. Some of these games were already in development, including Style Savvy and a reported unannounced Fire Emblem game.

Khan said;

“I know there was another Fire Emblem remake in the works for 3DS and that was one of the things that they shuttered. So maybe that’s one of the things they’ll bring forward in the future”.

A Message From Wall Street

Again, take this news with a pinch of salt as right now its only conjecture. However, a few days ago Takashi Mochizuki of the Wall Street Journal made a similar claim to Khan. Taking to Twitter, Mochizuki stated;

“Nintendo chief Furukawa said [the] company would make more 3DS franchises available on Switch to convey [the] appeal of [Switch] Lite”.

The Switch Lite launched to a great initial reception, with nearly 2 million units being sold worldwide within its first 11 days. Clearly, there is still life in the Switch and it seems like whatever Nintendo touches recently turns to gold. If these rumours are true, the canned 3DS games might be able to see the light of day thanks to the Switch Lite. Time will tell what will happen.
