Niantic developing Pikmin AR Mobile Game

Niantic developing Pikmin AR Mobile Game

Pokémon Go developer Niantic has announced that their Tokyo studio is working on a new Pikmin mobile AR game.

Teasing the game on Nintendo’s Twitter account, not much else has been revealed about the game, other than its walking mechanics will be similar to Pokémon Go‘s Adventure Sync, but have stressed that it will be a very different game from Pokémon Go.

Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto had this to say about the partnership:

“Niantic’s AR technology has made it possible for us to experience the world as if Pikmin are secretly living all around us. Based on the theme of making walking fun, our mission is to provide people a new experience that’s different from traditional games. We hope that the Pikmin and this app will become a partner in your life.”

There’s no official release date for the game but Niantic has said that the game will release ‘globally’ sometime later this year and that other mobile games featuring Nintendo IP’s are also in the works.

While Pikmin fans have been waiting patiently for any kind of announcement about Pikmin 4, which according to Shigeru Miyamoto is ‘very close to completion’, this may keep them at bay until that time.
