With PAX South to commence this weekend at San Antonio, Texas, an official announcement came up on 16th January 2019 from publisher Devolver Digital, that the neo-noir inspired, bullet-time hack and slash game Katana Zero, which is being developed by Askiisoft will be releasing in March 2019.
This news comes after the company had split from their previous publisher Adult Swim Games around a month ago. It is unknown by the looks of things as to why the parting of ways occurred, but according to the tweet below, it looks was a friendly agreement to end the partnership.
Within the last week or so, Katana Zero has been gaining a fair amount of publicity that it likely never had outside of word of mouth. The game was one of the sponsors of the recent Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) charity speed running event, which raised more than $2 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation charity and would’ve received hundreds of thousands of viewers eyeing up the event to potentially see the game advertised. Add to that Devolver Digital having a bigger presence under the public eye, for the variety of popular indie titles published such as Enter The Gungeon, Hotline Miami & The Messenger and you’ve got a great match that will hopefully allow the developers to perform well, if the game is well received by critics and the public.
Over the course of its 3-4 year estimate development window and taking preview builds to a number of indie & gaming conventions, the overall view from people said that it was great fun and struggled to put the controller down during the demo.
According to the official Steam page for Katana Zero, the details about the game are as follows:
Katana Zero is a stylish neo-noir, action-platformer featuring breakneck action and instant-death combat. Slash, dash, and manipulate time to unravel your past in a beautifully brutal acrobatic display.
Exceptional Combat: Overcome your opposition however the situation requires. Deflect gunfire back at foes, dodge oncoming attacks, and manipulate enemies and environments with traps and explosives. Leave no survivors.
Hand-Crafted Sequences: Each level is uniquely designed for countless methods of completion. Defeat foes creatively, using spontaneous approaches to eliminate your enemy as you see fit.
Unconventional Storytelling: An enigmatic story told through cinematic sequences woven into the gameplay, twisting and folding to an unexpected conclusion.
The game has been confirmed to be releasing on PC and although there has been no word currently on a specific date or console release, Askiisoft did release a tweet back on the 11th January 2019 stating that a console announcement is due some time, in the next couple of months.
