Minecraft’s Nether Update Adds Celeste Composer

Mental Health

Minecraft’s next highly anticipated update will add added hot new music talent to its soundtrack.

Celeste composer Lena Raine will contribute 3 original tracks to accompany players exploring the new biomes introduced in the update. Rubedo sets the eerie tone for the standard Nether Wastes biome, while Chrysopoeia and So Below will accompany the brand new Crimson Forest, Soulsand Valleys, and Basalt Delta biomes.

Switch indie darling Celeste was frequently praised for its beautiful, soundtrack, for which Raine was nominated for a BAFTA. Raine also composed for Guild Wars 2, and recently released her debut album of original solo music, Oneknowing.

This will be the first music in Minecraft not to be composed by Daniel Rosenfeld, better known as C418. Perhaps the choice to employ a new composer will serve to differentiate the hellish Nether from C418’s dreamy Overworld music.

On the task of creating music for the massively popular game, Lena commented; “One of the primary instruments in Minecraft is the piano, and so one of my challenges to myself was to see how far I could push the sound of the piano until it resembled other things entirely–again, that alchemical process.”

“I wanted each piece to feel like a progression of emotions, or a journey from place to place within this other world. There’s a degree of beauty to the Nether, but it is also terrifying in both its details and scale.”

The upcoming Nether Update will serve to expand on the Nether dimension, introducing new biomes, mobs, and items. We’re particularly excited about the addition of Netherite armour, which allows the player to withstand lava. You can read a full list of the update’s changes and additions on Minecraft‘s website.
