MINECRAFT DUNGEONS Has Made Mealtimes More Enjoyable!

I am quite sure I am in the minority here and it may come as a shock to some when I disclose that have never so much as picked up a pickaxe never mind set foot in the Nether. Playing survival games where I have to eat, drink or feed others, is not my bag at all, I have enough of this in real life! I am not a Minecrafter and I am proud to wear this as a badge of honour. However, this does not mean that I am not very much aware of what is required of you in the game. Being a Mamma and a gamer there is no escaping it. The mealtime conversations about creepers and Pillagers, the excitement amongst my brood as the Nether update was discussed etc. So imagine my surprise when I found myself playing and ENJOYING it. Minecraft Dungeons has made mealtimes more enjoyable!

So what is it about?

Minecraft Dungeons is an action-adventure game, which was inspired by classic dungeon crawlers and set in the Minecraft realm.

You must brave the dungeons alone or you can team up with friends, up to four players can battle together online or in couch co-op.

I found myself using melee swings, using rapid fire with my ranged attacks, and buffing up as a tank to take down the Evil Arch-Illager (or Evil Rabbit as I constantly referred to him, much to my child’s annoyance). You are able to personalize your character, and unlock unique items and weapon enchantments for devastating and sometimes hilarious special attacks. The Llama in particular is one of my favourites.

There is such a huge variety of weapons, armour, and equipment though in the game, and I found myself investing more time than I thought I ever would in trying to work out the optimal loadout for the more difficult encounters. Yes, some of the encounters are in fact difficult. Artefacts and enchantments provide different buffs and special abilities so there is plenty to juggle with as you strive to be the best hero you can be.

It is a particularly short campaign and I have read that some are able to complete it in 6 hours. Me, I am still ploughing my way through it but then I do like to check out everything, and leave no block unturned. I have enjoyed swashbuckling my way through the levels of darkened forests, avoiding (sometimes) the boobytrapped temples, and losing my cool in the Redstone mine. Oh and let us not forget the secret level. Yes, there is a secret level of cows!

There is also a slider that allows you to set the difficulty, and as is often the case, the harder you go, the better the loot you will find.

Mojang has said the game will be constantly updated and this sounds like the ground is being set for an expansion or two. In fact as I type there is DLC available in the store.

JUNGLE AWAKENS (DLC)

“As threats roar to life beneath the jungle canopies, itโ€™s up to you to save these leafy lands. Take on new missions, battle new mobs, and fight the mighty Jungle Abomination!
Fight through 3 new missions.
Battle the Leapleaf and Whisperer.
New weapons, armour, and artifacts”.

Microsoft

Unless you bought the Hero Edition of the original game, then all this is already included.

Minecraft Dungeons is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Game Pass.
