Microsoft wants to make more old Xbox games backwards-compatible, or they are at least looking into how to make that happen.
The next generation of consoles is all the rave right now and with it comes new games, as well. However, let’s not forget all the old gems from previous generations. Nostalgia is a powerful tool as Microsoft is well aware of. Over 600 games from the original Xbox and the Xbox 360 era can be played on the Xbox One. And with the new Xbox consoles only one month away you will be able to play all of these 600+ games in addition to tons of Xbox One games.
Never Say Never
But Apparently new games aren’t enough. Game Informer talked to Xbox director of program management Jason Ronald regarding the possibility of more games being made backwards-compatible. This is what he had to say:
“It’s definitely something that we’re looking into, and I’ll say ‘Never say never’. But I will also say some of these games were designed before the idea of generational compatibility came into play. So, in some cases, we’ve run into some technical challenges, and in other cases, there’s licensing challenges and whatnot. So, the team’s definitely looking into it. I can’t commit to anything here, but it’s definitely something top of mind for us and something that we are investigating.”
Backwards-compatible games will be getting free, automatic upgrades such as auto-HDR, smoother frame-rate and shorter loading times for the Xbox Series S/X.
