Microsoft, Obsidian in “Very Early” Talks over Fallout New Vegas Sequel

According to Jeff Grubb (on his Grubbsnax podcast [paywall, transcribed by VGC]), Obsidian has allegedly been talking about a sequel to Fallout: New Vegas.

The news comes following the Microsoft x Bethesda acquisition; Bethesda being the license holder of Fallout, and Obsidian being the developers of New Vegas, of course.

Now that both studios are under the Xbox banner of studios, a New Vegas sequel could be a thing.

Grubb said;

“This is very early, but people have begun to have talks and say these words in sentences, and those words are ‘Obsidian’ and ‘New Vegas 2‘.

We’re talking years and years away. There’s at least an interest and conversations happening about making something like that actually a reality.

A lot of people at Microsoft think that this could work and there’s a lot of interest to make it happen”.

Obviously, this is big news for fans of New Vegas, and of Fallout in general. New Vegas is often cited as being one of the best RPGs of the modern era. Just as many fans consider it to be the best Fallout game in the franchise. And, with Bethesda’s most recent offering – Fallout 76 – not being particularly favourable to the community, this could be the shot of Jet in the arm the franchise needs.

Sadly, though, we’ll have to wait for the game – if it ever materialises at all. In the meanwhile, we still have The Outer Worlds and, if you’re so inclined, Fallout 4 to keep us going.
