Microsoft have announced their purchase of the Esports platform Smash.gg.
Unusually, the announcement was made by Smash themselves, rather than coming from Microsoft.
In a post on their home page, Smash.gg clarified what the buyout means:
Since we started in 2015, our goal has been to build active Esports scenes around the games people love to play. Today we’re excited to take the next step in that journey by joining Microsoft to help strengthen our existing relationships and explore new opportunities. Smash.gg will continue as a self-service Esports platform available to tournament organizers from all game communities.
The deal has been confirmed by MSN Esports, so it looks like Smash.gg will be integrated into the MSN platform, which will most likely cover their tournaments for the news portion of the site, whilst being able to support first-party sourced content for the news site.

Literally a giant. Living on the Border, trying to get through my Netflix/Disney+ lists whilst also completing the pile of games I have yet to play
