Mass Effect Legendary Edition confirmed on N7 day.

Remastered Trilogy finally confirmed, releasing Spring 2021.

Future games also teased in announcement.

Since 2012, Mass Effect fans have marked “N7 Day” on November the 7th, as a celebration of their love for the series.

Now, Bioware has used the day to give fans something new to celebrate, as it confirmed the long-rumoured “Legendary Edition” of the games’ original trilogy.

The project was already one of the worst kept secrets in gaming, and fans won’t have to wait long to jump back into Commander Shepard’s space boots. The developer has confirmed the title will release in Spring 2021.

Writing on Bioware’s blog, Studio Manager Casey Hudson wrote:

It’s tough keeping a big secret (and we really struggled to keep this one a surprise) but now it’s official: today we announced the Mass Effect Legendary Edition! We’ve heard (for years!) your requests for a Mass Effect remaster, so we’re super happy to finally reveal that we’ve been working on a remastered edition of the Mass Effect trilogy.”

The games will be a remaster, rather than a remake, with the aim to let “fans and new players experience the original work in its best possible form.”. The post went on to say that “(The) Legendary Edition will include single-player base content and DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, plus promo weapons, armors, and packs – all remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD.”

Further details on the remaster will be coming in the new year. Fans of the original will certainly wonder if there will only be improvements to the trilogy’s graphical presentation, or if other aspects will be brought up to modern standards. The first game in particular was known for having slightly more awkward controls and vehicle sections. Veterans of the series would surely love to see these updated.

Next chapter

In addition, Hudson confirmed the company had plans to continue the series in the future, and that a team were in the “early stages” of a new chapter in the franchise. This should be music to the ears of anyone who feared for the future of Mass Effect after the poorly-received Andromeda.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition will release in Spring 2021 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
