Landon Montgomery, Co-Founder of Gearbox, Has Passed Away

It is with a heavy heart that ABG must report on the passing of Gearbox co-founder Landon Montgomery. Best known for his time at Gearbox, Montgomery spent time overseeing some of the studio’s biggest releases.

ABG is sorry to report that Landon Montgomery has passed away.

Best known as being one of Gearbox’s co-founders, Montgomery’s death was announced via the official Gearbox Twitter account.

“We are heartbroken after learning today of the passing of one of our co-founders, Landon Montgomery.

In our earliest years, Landon played a big role in helping to set our path. We will always be thankful and remember him for being a part of our lives. During this trying time, our thoughts, support, and affection are with those who were closest to him”.

Whilst he co-founded Gearbox back in 1999, Montgomery’s time in the industry stretches beyond that. He worked as an artist and level designer for Bethesda.

Whilst at Gearbox, Montgomery was responsible for the day-to-day operations. He oversaw production on Half-Life, Halo, and Borderlands. He personally directed and produced Half-Life: Opposing Force and Brothers in Arms.

After leaving Gearbox back in 2010, Montgomery spent some time as a manager at Daybreak Games before moving to Nvidia. It was here that he was working as a producer prior to his death.

It is never easy losing somebody, and ABG sends it condolences to Montgomery’s family, friends, and fans. Thank you, Landon Montgomery.
