Kwalee Reveals “Best” Gaming Nations

Kwalee, the independent UK indie mobile game developer, has published information dedicated to the best gaming nations on Earth.

Want to see where your country ranks? Do you claim to be a pro-gamer? Check out Kwalee’s stats below.

Looking closer to home, the home nations of Scotland, Ireland, and England come in at 8th, 9th, and 12th positions respectively. (My “home” nation and spiritual home of Wales and Northern Ireland failed to break the top 20. Come on, guys! Do better! GWLAD GWLAD, indeed!)

Kwalee also broke down which countries were best at which games. Northern Ireland excels at Skyrim and Sonic the Hedgehog. Portal, Tekken, Mario Kart, and Shenmue are at home in England. And Scotland is full of DiRT. (We knew that already though. I’m joking, Alex).

It may be load of nonsense, but it is an interesting analysis. Kwalee sifted through 42,000 achievements across over 16,000 games to come up with these results.

It’s a testament to the world’s love of gaming (and of Kwalee’s spare time/dedication to bringing us the facts that nobody asked for).

They’ve even gone further to show the top five in various genres. For instance:

Best Racing Game Nation

  1. Scotland
  2. Estonia
  3. Hungary
  4. England
  5. Finland

Best Sports Game Nation

  1. Norway
  2. Wales (guilty, as charged)
  3. Finland
  4. Wales
  5. Canada

Best Fighting Game Nation

  1. Japan
  2. Ireland
  3. Canada
  4. Sweden
  5. Wales (No comment – I suck at fighting games)

Best Shooter Game Nation

  1. USA (as if there was ever going to be another outcome here)
  2. New Zealand
  3. England
  4. Finland
  5. Australia

Kwalee is also quick to note that, whilst their research is extensive, it is subject to change. Achievements can fluctuate between player to player. As such, they promise to update the charts as and when necessary.

There you go. Something you didn’t know you needed in your life on this overcast Friday
