Hideo Kojima’s studio, Kojima Productions, has launched a new division focusing on other forms of media.
The new division arm is based in Los Angeles.
Riley Russell, who has a near three-decade career at PlayStation beneath his belt, will be leading the new venture.
“The new division will be tasked with working with creative and talented professionals in television, music, and film. [These will be alongside] the more familiar games industry”
The team has as its charter, the goal of expanding the reach and awareness of the properties now under development at Kojima Productions. [The goal is] to make them even more a part of our popular culture. We are truly excited and looking forward to working with the best entertainment talent we can, [from] across all of the entertainment industries”.[via/GamesIndustry.biz]
Yoshiko Fukuda, Kojima Productions’ business development manager, added;
“Finding new ways to entertain, engage, and offer value to our fans is essential in a fast-moving, ever-changing, storytelling world. Our new division will take the studio into even more areas that present our creative narratives beyond video games. [And it will allow us] to open up ways for our fans to communicate and immerse themselves in these spaces”.
Back in my heady days as an intern at a little-known YouTube company [if you know, you know], I remember saying to the boss about Kojima making a movie alongside Guillermo del Toro. And the boss shut it down saying, “never going to happen”. As predictions go, that was pretty good. Granted, not exactly the same thing, but close.
