You may have heard of Cyberpunk’s gender slider and seen everything from body shade, to face sliders. However Obsidian Entertainment have implimented a new one in recently (early access) released Grounded; the Arachnophobia Slider. For those not aware, Arachnophobia is the extreme fear of spiders, and considering most fantasy games have some sort of spider, you’ll have issues.
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you were shrunk and left in the backgarden to fight insects? No, me neither. But that’s what Grounded allows you to experience. Unfortunately for arachnophobes, Grounded‘s main enemies happen to be spiders. So, what you can do is tone down the spidery-ness, until eventually you get…little floating blobs.
Obviously this is a very extreme example, and you can tone the enemies up or down depending on preference. You can remove textures, fangs, limbs as you move up the slider. Many people may mock the spider slider, but it does help people’s accessibility. Allowing people to play a game they may previously have been unable to, which is undeniably a good thing.
