Google Stadia is now free to anyone with a Gmail address.
What’s more, Stadia Pro, the premium edition of the platform, is free for new users for two months as well.
Google made the announcement recently, which coincides with the launch of Stadia’s free version. If you’re one of the people who has already purchased a Stadia Pro subscription, you won’t be charged for the next two months.
Existing Stadia Pro subscribers won’t be charged for the next two months of the service, Google said.
Previously, players needed to purchase the Google Stadia Premiere Edition bundle to play any Stadia games. The bundle included a Chromecast Ultra, wireless Stadia Controller, and three months of Stadia Pro.
The free edition will allow players to stream games – at a capped maximum resolution of 1080p – using any supported Google product. This includes a PC, Chrome Tablet, Pixel phone, and more. You don’t need to purchase a Stadia Controller as games can be played using a conventional mouse and keyboard.
The one drawback for free users in comparison to the Premiere ones is that you don’t have access to any free games. Instead, you’ll have to purchase the games outright.
