Google Introduces New Stadia Studio

With a newly established studio, Google Stadia might be able to start churning out some first-party games to fill their lacklustre library. Especially when you hear who’s heading up the new Playa Vista studio

To carry on with more of Stadia’s problems this week, we, ironically, have news that Stadia might benefit from.

Though we’ve spent plenty of time demonising Google’s handling of the Stadia platform, it might be some time for good news. In an announcement via blog post, Google has recently established a new game development studio for the Stadia platform. The aptly named Stadia Games and Entertainment Studio will be lead by Shannon Studstill.

For anyone unfamiliar with that name, Studstill has spent more than two decades as a developer at Sony Santa Monica. She had even served as vice president of product development and head of the studio.

Studstill is also credited as executive producer on God of War (2018).

Within the aforementioned blog post, vice president of Stadia Games, Jade Raymond stated:

“The new Playa Vista [California] studio will focus on delivering exclusive games, using new gameplay mechanics, creative ways to play together and unique interaction models that we’re just starting to explore. While we’re not ready to share specific game plans yet, rest assured we are listening to what gamers want and adding our own Stadia twists to create new IP and experiences”.

With this newly-established studio, along with Stadia Games Montreal and the previously acquired Typhoon Studios, Stadia should have a decent first-party line-up going forward.

As we all know, that (currently) is not the case though. Still, watch this space, and who knows what the next few months can bring.
