On December 12th, 2019, Counterplay games in conjunction with Gearbox Software and PlayStation, announced the first PS5 title so far, Godfall. The title was revealed at the 2019 Game Awards ceremony. The following trailer is cinematic, not gameplay – yet.
In the meantime, Godfall hadn’t made too many waves until just recently. Reception upon announcement was measured, some saying it looked like Anthem and worried, others like Warframe and excited. However On Tuesday, January 21st a full gameplay trailer was uploaded to reddit (from a now deleted account), an expansion of a 6 second clip that had previously leaked. Godfall played like neither. The following was uploaded to Youtube.
Then, in the same day Godfall’s twitter confirmed the legitimacy of the content in the following tweet.
Godfall looks quite Souls-Like with a twist, and a vibrant art style. Counterplay has described Godfall as a “looter-slasher” with “drop-in drop-out” multiplayer with 1-4 players. The expected release date is between October and December, 2020 – inline with the “Holiday 2020” PS5 launch. We’ll certainly be waiting to hear more at Any Button Gaming, but what do you think about Godfall? Let us know in the comments.
