Geralt Of Rivia Is Back In Comic Book Form

The famed witcher Geralt of Rivia doesn’t seem to be able to catch a break. If it’s not monster hunting here or saving the world from spectral, horseriding killers elves; who can travel between dimensions. And now he has been caught up in some burning witches, to top it all off.

The Witcher: Witch’s Lament by writer Bartosz Sztybor with artist Vanessa R. del Rey, colorist Jordie Bellaire, and letterer Aditya Bidikar tells the tale about Geralt’s tragic past, in a story very much inspired by our own world.

The Witcher: Witch’s Lament follows famed witcher Geralt after a routine hunt. But when the captured witch is burned at the stake, Geralt is haunted by images of her death, and a harrowing warning begins to take shape. Soon, Geralt finds himself drawn into the mystery surrounding this heinous persecution”

They’re Burning Witches At The Stake

This story is similar to that of Felicia Cori, from The Witcher Franchise. Felicia made her first appearance in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Some gamers might remember the scene, in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt when Geralt first arrives in Novigrad and is greeted by the sight of Felicia being burned at the stake by the witch hunters for being a mage. And Geralt being too late to stop them.

The Witcher: Witch’s Lament is Sztybor’s second comic book series in the franchise, after the current The Witcher: Fading Memories. series. Sztybor is also CD Projekt Red’s narrative manager, and he works as a writer for the games.

The Witcher: Witch’s Lament comes out on May 26.
