From Software’s Next Game in “Final Stages of Development”

According to Elden Ring director and CEO of From Software, Hidetaka Miyazaki claims their next game is close to completion. This was revealed in an interview with Japanese site 4Gamer. In it, Miyazaki was questioned on a prior comment in 2018, where he revealed From had several games in development.

When he was asked if one of those games not yet released was on the way, Miyazaki confirmed it was. Taken from the interview, he said, “Yes, it is. We are in the final stages of development.”

Back in the 2018 interview, the From Software CEO said that since 2016, the studio had been working on “three and a half games”. The half-game of course being the PS4 VR title, Déraciné.

“There are 3.5 lines that have been in the works since that time,” Miyazaki said. “0.5 is Déraciné, 1.0 is Sekiro and the remaining 2.0 are unannounced titles.”

When asked to elaborate, he said: “It’s not the right time to talk about them in detail, but I think they are both games that are typical of us. It will take a little more time, but I think we will be able to tell you about them one by one as they take shape.”

Of course, it’s been four years since that interview, and now of course we know that smash hit Elden Ring was another. But the final, full game on that elusive list remains, at least from From Software’s perspective yet unannounced. But what we know is that this final title has now been in development since at least 2016.

We say “according to From Software” because the final title is widely believed to be Armored Core 6. There have been numerous leaks citing various sources that point in the direction of another Armored Core release. Reserera user Red Liqorice claimed in January that they had received a survey from the developer announcing this as fact.

The alleged unnamed instalment, which would be the first full Armored Core title since 2012, was said to feature a “sci-fi world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki”, “three-dimensional, dynamic action” and a “high degree of freedom in customisation”.

If it turns out to be the case, this would mark the first full Armored Core title since 2012. This, of course, predates the meteoric rise of the Souls series (yes ok DS1 released in 2011, but who could predict the colossal impact of the series then?).

The release is said to feature a “sci-fi world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki”, “three-dimensional, dynamic action” and a “high degree of freedom in customisation”. But with the success of Dark Souls, Sekiro and now Elden Ring behind them, we’re sure they’ll sneak in a mechanical bonfire or two.
